A prisoner granted clemency after 10 years returns home to pick up the pieces of his life but learns that reconnecting with his wife and children requires as much grit as he needed behind bars.
ANJO BALOGUN (45), a brilliant civil engineer jailed for 21 years, is released after 10 years on the new governor’s prerogative of mercy. He is eager to reconnect with CHIOMA (38), his banker wife, and their three children: mild mannered undergraduate, YOMI (18); adventurous YETUNDE (16), and reclusive AKIN (14). But Banjo’s hopes of a joyful family reunion are dashed when he realizes that his wife and kids are emotionally-unavailable to him. Worse, without a job and unable to provide for his family, Banjo who was a great civil engineer before the robbery that got him locked up, seeks work but is unable to find one because of his criminal record. It galls him to see Chioma, now the head of debt recovery at Janus Bank, take care of the whole family from her purse. Desperate to reconnect with his family, Banjo persuades his reluctant wife to seek therapy with him from his oldest and closest friend, RAY IKPEBA (45), an accomplished life-coach and marriage counselor. As their bi-weekly marriage counselling sessions begin, Banjo also works hard to reconnect with his children. Unbeknownst to Banjo, his family have secrets and demons of their own which his presence in their life has complicated. Chioma is having an affair with Ray – Banjo’s best friend and their marriage counselor – and was on the verge of serving him divorce papers when he was unexpectedly let out of jail. Yomi, Banjo’s oldest child, a 2nd year Architecture undergraduate at UNILAG, is on the verge of joining a dreaded cult because he’s bullied on campus because of the girl he likes. Yetunde, the second child, a year 5 secondary student, is thrilled to have her first boyfriend but scared to have sex which her popular-boyfriend insists they must if he’s to stay. And Akin, the last kid and the one who was youngest when their dad was whisked off to jail, is unable to make friends at his new school. Chioma, their too-busy mom, barely has time for them, leading to the children to deal with their own issues. Banjo’s early failures makes him turn to what he knows best, engineering, and applies its principles to repair his fractured connection with his wife and their kids. As Banjo gradually journeys back to a formidable family man, his criminal past returns to destroy everything he’s built.
