Genre drama, comedy

Logline

A woman who has been attending the same grief support group for twelve years — well past anyone's reasonable estimate of need — falls in love with a new member who plans to be done in six months.

Synopsis

HELEN, 51, lost her husband to a sudden cardiac event in 2012. The group helped her survive the first year. It also became, without her fully realizing it, the organizing structure of her entire social life. She is not grieving anymore. She is comfortable. DREW, 44, joins the group eight weeks after his wife's death from cancer and brings to every session a specificity of feeling that makes Helen ashamed of her own vagueness. He intends to use the group until he doesn't need it and leave. Helen has never once thought about leaving. FIFTY SATURDAYS is a romantic comedy built around the least romantic setting available — and around the question of whether growth requires loss or whether loss can just quietly become something else. The campaign covers production; the team has an existing relationship with a documentary distributor who has expressed interest pending delivery.
