Logline

A disgraced FBI negotiator must outwit a militiaman holding a school bus of children hostage on the Utah salt flats — with only 90 minutes before a sandstorm buries them all.

Synopsis

CLAIRE DOSS, 42, once the Bureau's top crisis negotiator, now runs a bait shop in Wendover after a botched hostage exchange left a senator's daughter dead. When a doomsday prepper named ELIAS CRANE hijacks a school bus en route to a field trip and radios in with a demand no government can meet — the full withdrawal of federal land authority from the West — the panicking local sheriff calls the one person Crane specifically requested by name. Claire and Elias have history. Fifteen years ago she helped him; he believes she betrayed him. Now the desert, the clock, and the coming storm are the only referees. THE SALT FLATS is a taut single-location thriller in the tradition of Speed and Breakdown, built around a moral question neither character can answer cleanly: is saving lives worth becoming the thing you fought against?
